KYOKO SAGARA

β€œThe art of clay is about the relationship between you and the clay. The process of making is just as important as the final product. Feeling the temperature and texture of the clay helps guide you to what you will make. The functional art of clay shines brightest when the finished piece is utilized and appreciated through daily use.”

Kyoko took her very first class at Clayworks on Columbia in 1996.  Falling in love with clay, she continued to study ceramics at Hunter College with Jeff Mongran. Kyoko has exhibited her work and won awards at galleries and institutions mostly in New York City.

Kyoko has been an instructor at Clayworks for over 10 years. She now lives both in New York and Osaka, Japan. She includes aspects of both cultures in her approach to ceramic art.
