Demetria Chappo is a Brooklyn-based ceramist making hand-sculpted home, lifestyle pieces and wall hangings with an emphasis on intricate surface details, organic and architectural form, and universal symbolism. Demetria began taking wheel-throwing classes while in college, although she was first introduced to clay by her mother who earned a graduate degree in ceramics, and made some of her first pieces as a small child. Drawn the tactile nature of clay and the sculpting process, she continued her practice in New York and now teaches children and adults. She enjoys and finds constant inspiration during her weekly Sunday School, sharing her love of clay with the children’s ceramic class. Her work has been shown and sold internationally and has been featured in New York Magazine, San Francisco Magazine, Design Sponge, The Design Files and Local Creative to name a few. Originally from Louisiana, she received a BFA from the University of Utah and currently lives in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
